Dear Chief Warrant Officer McDonough,
Moving Out in 2012
A lot is happening this month. We’re closing out the 2011 Give Me 10! recruiting campaign, kicking off the 2012 campaign, and preparing the annual potential-member lists chapter leaders use to kick-start their local recruiting efforts.
During the 2011 Give Me 10! campaign, chapters recruited a record 6,487 new MOAA members and chapter members. Thanks go out to our council and chapter leaders for working this program. We will prepare final incentive payments to chapters for 2011 at the end of January.
Don’t forget to submit your entry for the communications awards by Feb. 1. We want to recognize councils and chapters and the individuals who are doing great work. Finally, if you are a council or chapter leader, it’s not too early to begin thinking about your submission for this year’s Levels of Excellence Awards (LOE) program. Entries are due June 1. For the first time this year, state councils of chapters will be included in the awards program. See the evaluation form for councils here, and the evaluation form for chapters here. Have a great 2012.
Col. Lee Lange II, USMC-Ret.
Director, MOAA Council and Chapter Affairs Department

Gold Bar Program 2012
The Gold Bar Program is part of MOAA’s annual Give Me 10! Campaign and is designed to encourage chapter leaders to reach out to ROTC units in their area and present graduating cadets/midshipmen with their first set of gold bars—along with free, one-year memberships in national MOAA that they are eligible to receive as newly commissioned active duty officers. For more details, click here.

USA4 Military Families Sets Goals
For the last several years, councils and chapters have worked with the DoD State Liaison Office and their regional representatives to tackle the top 10 legislative goals for the USA4 Military Families program. These goals are related to state-level issues that affect military families’ quality of life. MOAA’s council and chapter members advocate on these issues at the state level. We’ve already made great strides on initiatives such as the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, which will help ease the transition between states for school-age military children. To learn more about the Interstate Compact and other initiatives, visit the USA4 Military Families’ website.
